What is Downbeat.fm?
I love music. I almost always have music playing – whether I am streaming it on my computer or across my home network, or blasting one of my records throughout the house. If I had to pick between only listening to music, watching TV, or watching movies for the rest of my life I would pick music and it wouldn’t even be close.
Why should you care? Maybe you shouldn’t.
But! If you love music, and like discovering new music, maybe you should.
Personally, I’ve always found it difficult to discover new music. Radio has sucked for a long time, MTV has been non-existent even longer so you’re left on your own, or if you’re lucky you have friends with good taste in music.
Musically, my tastes are pretty varied and, at times, bizarre. So I’ve found it very difficult to find new – or at least new to me – music.
Recommendations from streaming services have been hit or miss for me over the years as well. Apple Music’s generated playlists are generally a mess while their suggested playlists are usually decent. Spotify is better, but not perfect for me.
Downbeat.fm is how I intend to address this problem.
Once a month, I create a playlist released on both Apple Music and Spotify and share it with my friends and the world via a newsletter. I’ll also keep the archives here, on Downbeat.fm.
Maybe the songs will be new new, maybe they will just be new to me and an old favorite for you – but the joy of music is always in the sharing of it.
I hope you enjoy the music and experience as much as I do.
You can find me on Apple Music, Spotify, Twitter, or my personal Twitter.
